Abstract

This roundtable discusses research on the utilization of innovative digital design technologies to support interdisciplinary education, such as contextualized mathematics education within music themed activities. As an example, the 2013 “World Music & Math Camp” focused on music related activities that employed innovative digital design technologies that support rapid prototyping—specifically the use of 3D-printers and other digital fabrication technologies to support students in designing musical instruments, as well as the use of chroma key compositing to support students in producing math themed music-videos—as an engaging context for teaching upper elementary students math education in a meaningful context. This roundtable will discuss future research and development efforts that aim to use innovative digital design technologies to support interdisciplinary learning environments.
