Abstract

40th Anniversary booklet of La Raza Unida Commemoration in El Paso, Texas, August 30-September 2, 2012. Featuring essays by Jose Angel Gutierrez, Dennis Bixler-Marquez, Lupe Anguiano, Miguel Juarez (lead editor), and profiles on Oscar R. Castillo and a tribute to the late Dr. Felipe Ortego de Gasca.The 1972 El Paso convention attracted over 3,000 Chicano/a delegates, half of them women from the Southwest, the Mid-West, and from the Northeast, over the Labor Day Weekend in 1972. The meeting was a people-driven and a women organized event, GLBT people also attended and contributed. Raza Unida Party members sought to become a national third political party in the United States, although Texas and California had largest contingents, delegates came from 25 states.
