Abstract
It's 1999 when Joan Lewis turns thirteen in rural Kentucky, just as her parents sell their land to open a limestone quarry. When a petty theft leads to a summer of chores followed by loss, Joan's world begins to explode. As her mother sinks into addiction, a family secret is revealed, forcing Joan to question everything and set her sights on how to escape Lower Fork Branch.
