NOVA

In 1965 Texas Western College published a new college magazine titled NOVA. The editors explained their choice in title with the following statement, “NOVA derives from the Latin novus, meaning new. NOVA also denotes an obscure star which suddenly flares into brilliance. You ask, ‘Why NOVA?’ We reply collectively. ‘Why not? We had to call it something.’ It is almost a cliché to argue that no title is fetching enough to dignify a shoddy magazine. On the other hand, a good and honest publication can lend currency to its name. There is no intellectual snobbery intended. An unassuming little news magazine created simply to inform and entertain the alumni and friends of Texas Western College. That’s NOVA.”
