Abstract
A 107m tall FM radio transmission tower that had been in service for more than 25 years was found to contain extensive cracking in two of its three vertical columns. Contiguous crack segments extending for more than 5m were found in the midspan section. The failure investigation that follows describes the physical evidence observed and the engineering analysis relating to the causes for failure.
