Biographical Synopsis of Interviewee

María de los Ángeles Luna de Robles was born on an ejido in Poanas, Durango, México, on May 19, 1939; she had two sisters and one brother; her parents were campesinos on the ejido, and they owned the land they worked; she was formally educated through the third grade; in 1958, when she was nineteen years old, she married a man by the name of Crescencio Robles, who was twenty-two years old at the time; prior to their marriage, he enlisted in the bracero program, at the age of eighteen, and he continued working with the program; as a bracero, he labored in the fields of Arizona, California, New México and Texas; they went on to have six children.

Ms. Luna de Robles discusses her family; she talks about her marriage in 1958, to Crescencio Robles; they were from the same ejido, which was how they met; she was nineteen years old, and he was twenty-two at the time; prior to their marriage, he enlisted in the bracero program, at the age of eighteen, and he continued working with the program; he went through the contracting process in Chihuahua, México; as a bracero, he labored in the fields of Arizona, California, New México and Texas; he wrote letters to her and sent money about once a month; she usually received two to three hundred dollars via registered mail; her father-in-law cared for her and the children while Crescencio was gone; when his contract ended, he returned to working in the fields of México; they went on to have six children and were happy.
