Summary of Interview
Agustina Molina was born in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuaha in 1970 and immigrated to El Paso, Texas, when she was 16 years old in 1986. Growing up, she and the other kids in her family would go to her grandma’s house and help her make wreaths (coronas) for Dia de Los Muertos. Her grandma, Paublina, had a business where she would sell wreaths to people dedicated to her customers’ deceased loved ones. This tradition every year kept her family close to one another as they went through the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos and bonded over the rituals surrounding it. Even after moving to El Paso, she would cross the border to go to her grandma’s house to help make the wreaths. As described by Agustina, her grandma, Paublina, was the glue to the family that kept all their traditions alive. Even though her grandma passed away in 1995 and Agustina stopped creating wreaths for Dia de Los Muertos, she still recalls the process of making wreaths for Dia de Los Muertos and other practices, such as curanderismos, her grandma did for the family.
