Abstract
Cynthia Martinez talks about growing up in a Mexican household that was surrounded with Mexican traditions, such as preparing tamales for the holidays. Seeing and learning from her grandmother at a young age inspired her to later on continue the traditions of making tamales and sell them to local families. She mentions how continuing to make tamales with the same recipe that was taught to her at a young age helps her remember her grandmother and that her memory will always live on through tamales when preparing and eating them with family during the holidays. How she prepares and makes tamales for her family and orders are mentioned, and even shares some of the recipe. Some of her favorite memories of a tamalda are mentioned, and how her family celebrates the holidays. She reminds us as listeners how cultural traditions are important to continue, and she hopes her family will later on continue that tradition’s she was once taught.
