Because of their individual backgrounds in radio Alex and Patti Apostolides were invited to read a program of essays and book reviews for Radio Station KTEP (88.5 FM). When the program ended in 1983 Patti suggested starting a new program with stories Alex had written for the newsletter she was editing for the El Paso Corral of the Westerners. The stories were all about the Southwest as Westerners purpose is to preserve SW literature. The Program Director agreed and suggested a twenty-minute story followed by an interview. Guests were people who were writing about history, making history or were interested in the history of the Southwest. The original name "Desert Landscape, Edge of Texas” was changed to just “Edge of Texas” when people started calling to ask about the plants of the Southwest. Alex wrote the stories and Patti invited guests and kept a schedule of interviews. Sponsors included State National Bank, MBank, El Paso National Bank, Texas Commerce Bank, Bliss Auto Sales, and Saturn of El Paso. After more than one thousand episodes on air the program ended in September of 2005.
