Abstract
Poverty and incomplete markets led to relatively heavy government intervention in the housing market during the better part of the past 50 years in Mexico. Although the government remains actively involved in mortgage lending activities, private sector participation has increased substantially and continues to grow. As more data for private housing transactions become available, it is becoming apparent that residential real estate markets in Mexico share much in common with those in other countries. © 2012 Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Ltd All rights reserved..
