Conduction heat transfer in a hollow cylinder subjected to a step in flux on the inner surface

Pritam Singh K Gandhi, University of Texas at El Paso

Abstract

In this thesis the thermal response of the hollow cylinder subjected to a step in flux on the inner surface is determined. The solution to this problem consists of two parts: the transient part, and the quasi-steady part. The difficulties in arriving at the solution are discussed and an alternate derivation of the quasi-steady solution is presented. The solution may be used when using hollow cylinders as calorimeters, for the calibration of heat flux from various sources such as plasma arcs. The transient colorimeters, the quasi-steady solution with the slug calorimeters.
