Historical and descriptive highlights of five works for flute
Abstract
The goal of research of the performance repertoire performed on June 28, 2003 is to gain knowledge and perspective on the composers' lives, contribution to music literature, their placement in history, and their state of environment during the times the pieces were composed. A concentrated look at genre, form, and stylistic features by these composers will be explored. The purpose of this document is to analyze these specific issues into practical references and information that may be useful to flutists interested in learning and performing this repertoire. The following works will be studied: Sonata III, Largo e dolce and Allegro, J. S. Bach (1685–1750); Concertino, Gaetano Donizetti (1797–1848); Grand Solo No. 13, Jean Louis Tulou (1786–1865); Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 94, Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953); Mei , Kazuo Fukushima (b. 1930).
