Spatial resolution study of body surface and Laplacian maps for torso model in electrocardiography
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to calculate the surface Laplacian in Cartesian coordinates using the potentials at an array of nodes on the surface of a typical torso generated by a current dipole model of the heart. The values of the surface Laplacian are then analyzed in order to investigate the relationship to the body surface potentials. 3D body surface maps of the body surface potentials are compared to those of the surface Laplacian to analyze the spatial variability of the two. The results indicate that the 3D body maps of the surface Laplacian provide better spatial details of the heart activity, and overall better resolution than the surface maps of the potential. The values of the potentials and the Laplacian are then analyzed to ascertain their variability by calculating the spectral power density.
