Bridge program and at-risk adolescents

Abstract

Many programs have been created to address the needs of students at-risk for dropping out of school. Researchers have tried to define “good” programs, however, few researchers have looked at what students say about particular program components. This investigation was conducted to determine how high school students viewed the components of an at-risk program in which they participated. Students were given a written or oral questionnaire. They commented on each program component as well as how they felt about the program in general. Students rated components positively that allowed them to gain knowledge about themselves and connect with other students on a personal level. Group counseling and creating a mural were rated highest. Peer mediation was rated as the lowest component. Every student interviewed recommended the program to others.
