Psychometric properties of the Spanish Beck Depression Inventory-II in a medical and a student sample
Abstract
The present research examined the psychometric properties of the Spanish Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) in a medical sample and a student sample. Two specific factors of depression and a single general depression factor emerged in each sample, with the factor structures being largely consistent across samples. The Spanish BDI-II was not significantly associated with age or gender in either sample, but was significantly associated with disease severity in the patient sample. Bilingual participants completed the inventory in both Spanish and English, and their data revealed that the Spanish BDI-II was notably similar to the English BDI-II in factor structure and in demographic correlates. Results suggest that the Spanish BDI-II can be reliably used in medical and student samples.
