Petroleum and the peso
Abstract
This research develops a model that examines the relationship between petroleum prices and the Mexican peso/US dollar exchange rate. The study explains dynamic linkages between oil prices and movements in the exchange rate. Despite extensive investigation of economic effects of the oil prices on the Mexican economy, few are directed towards examining the linkage between the oil prices and the real exchange rate for the Mexican Peso. The data utilized in the study includes Mexican Peso/U.S. Dollar real exchange rate fluctuations, oil price changes as well as world GDP and world oil production level.
