The fall of Icarus: Charles Lindbergh and the campaign against the America First Committee
Abstract
Analysis of how President Roosevelt battled Charles Lindbergh and the America First Committee. This study will show that President Roosevelt used questionable tactics in attempting to manipulate the American public and stop American noninterventionists. Examined are some of the methods that Roosevelt employed to discredit this movement and thereby gain his objective, military intervention. Charles Lindbergh and the America First Committee form the center of this analysis. The importance of this study is to examine the lengths that a presidency can sometimes go to manipulate the American public into supporting, or acquiescing, to a foreign war. The Roosevelt presidency set a dangerous precedent still followed today.
