A gender role analysis of Mexican college students' views towards female premarital sexual attitudes and behaviors
Abstract
This study was a gender role analysis of Mexican college students' views towards female premarital sexual attitudes and behaviors in an effort to assess the potential costs for both women and men in terms of adopting traditional vs. non-traditional gender role attitudes and behaviors regarding sexuality. This study will increase the level of knowledge regarding the attitudes and behaviors of a population that has not been previously studied, since it permits an analysis of various areas within the Mexican culture such as sexual and moral attitudes, as well as values. The findings indicate that males tend to accept pre-marital sex in either casual or committed relationships while females tend to accept pre-marital sex in a committed relationship only. The double standard appears to be the most practiced standard of pre-marital sex. Accordingly, the double standard may not be as strong among Mexican college students as it has been before.
