Improving the Regression Rate of an HTPB Hybrid Rocket Fuel Grain

Travis Belcher, University of Texas at El Paso

Abstract

Hybrid rockets are the combination of liquid and solid propellant systems. The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is currently researching combining Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB) and Hydroxyl Ammonium Nitrate (HAN) in preparation for conducting testing using an Air Force developed monopropellant known as AF-M315E as an oxidizer. A new system was developed to conduct this testing based in the Goddard Laboratory at UTEP. This system was subjected to a series of tests to ascertain its performance characteristics, which are detailed in this thesis.^
